Summer can be a very challenging time for children diagnosed with ASD. Finding the proper setting where your child can thrive and enjoy the summer seems like an impossible task. To add to the list of problems, services may decrease in the summer. Yet the summer has hidden treasures! Many sensory friendly and goal oriented activities can be very rewarding if done properly. A study conducted by Bass, Duchowny and Llabre in 2009 showed Hippotherapy ( horseback riding) to greatly improve social skills, sensory seeking and sensitivity among many other benefits. Aquatic therapy (swimming) has also been proven to help with communication, balance and different motor skills.
